Badminton

The Queer Sport Badminton section has existed since November 2011, when badminton activities and training began, and since February 2012, the training has been led by a badminton coach.

Weekly Practices
Practices are held every Sunday in the afternoon at the Zagreb Fair, led by our coach. In the coach's absence, matches are played for the entire session. Practices are tailored to the individual participants based on their current fitness level and skills. If there are too few players registered, the badminton session will be canceled - therefore, it is necessary to sign up for the training.

Tournaments and Competitions
Members of the section have participated in several international competitions (Budapest, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Prague, Bratislava...) and so far, many Queer Sport tournaments have been organized in Zagreb.

Who can participate?
Everyone is welcome at the training sessions, regardless of whether they have been active in sports before, whether recreationally or not at all, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, or any other criteria.Members are united by a shared enthusiasm for badminton, ‘LGBTIQ-friendly’ and queer sensibility—that is, tolerance and respect for diversity—all with the goal of creating a friendly and relaxed training environment. All group activities related to training, competitions, social gatherings, and the like are coordinated through a private WhatsApp group of about 50 members. For any additional information or questions, interested parties can contact badminton@qsport.info

What do I need?
Standard athletic wear and/or a sweatsuit (especially for the colder months), indoor athletic shoes or any other clean footwear. Shuttlecocks are provided. Bring your own racket if you have one; if not, you can rent one at the center for €1. Be sure to bring a change of shirt, socks, etc., as you will definitely sweat on the court.

Price?
€5 per visit. The fee is the same for both coached training sessions and match play, and it is used to pay for court rental. The coach volunteers their time. The first visit is free.

When and where?
Every Sunday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM (or 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM during the winter months) at the Zagreb Fair (for the exact location/pavilion, please email us). Part of the session is with a coach, and when there isn't a coach, matches are played. Note: Sessions do not take place during the summer months.

Registration is required.
