Let's Move! is the dance section of Queer Sport, a recreational group where no prior dance experience is required and all LGBTIQ+ people are welcome! We meet once a week, but attendance is optional, which means you can come regularly, just once, or only occasionally - whatever works for you, because it's okay for our priorities to change throughout the year!
We work with two dance directions: MTV (urban styles based on hip hop) and Movement (artistic styles based on jazz dance). The goal of our get-togethers is to get active, connect, have fun, relax and express ourselves through movement without worrying about how we look, whether we've got it all down or if anyone will judge us.
What does a training look like?
First, we warm up and stretch. Then we learn a few dance steps and some dance vocabulary. After that, we learn the choreography and dance, and at the end, if there's time, we have a moment to relax and do some light stretching. The choreographies aren't long or demanding; they serve more as a framework/guideline that each person adapts to themselves to connect and express themselves. Everything is adaptable and open-ended, allowing you to explore your own body and abilities, connect with your own body, then with others and allow yourself to feel the emotions that move us.
What will you find here?
A large hall and a friendly crew! The existing locker rooms and restrooms are gender-neutral, and I'm still trying to find more spaces like that for our training sessions. The songs we're choreographing are by queer performers/musicians, and we'll build the warm-up playlist together (so join our WhatsApp group)!
What to wear/bring?
You can practice and dance in whatever clothes are most comfortable for you and make you feel like you're slaying! We recommend a cotton T-shirt and leggings/sweatpants, but that's not set in stone. You can wear your hair up or have your own hairography. Depending on the choreography, we recommend dancing in socks or sneakers, but that's up to your personal preference.
Bring a water bottle - that's the only must-have!
If you want to join or have any questions, feel free to reach out to the trainer Karla on Instagram (@not_artist_karla).
